Author of Optometry 101
Tahiba Begum BSc (Hons) ProfCert MedRet

Tahiba Begum is a qualified Optometrist with over ten years of experience in her respective field. She has worked in multiple high street chains where she completed her pre-registration, after which she successfully progressed as a supervisor and tutor within the industry. Throughout her career, she has mentored and supported numerous students, many of whom have since qualified as confident and capable Optometrists.

Born in Rochdale, a small town in Greater Manchester, Tahiba achieved the highest GCSE grades in her cohort—
8 A*s and 5 As—despite the challenges of Rochdale's education system. She continued her studies at Oldham Sixth Form College before earning a BSc in Optometry from the University of Bradford. After completing her residency at Specsavers, Tahiba gained diverse clinical experience working across the UK—from London to Bolton to Manchester—developing a well-rounded and adaptable approach to patient care.
To further hone her expertise in ocular disease, Tahiba completed additional training, including a postgraduate Professional Cerificate in Medical Retina at the University of Cardiff. She now dedicates time to creating educational webinars focusing on ocular disease and offers one-on-one sessions covering all aspects of optometry. Her goal is to give back—sharing her knowledge and experience to uplift the next generation of eye care professionals.
Over the years, Tahiba has been fortunate to meet many optometrists and healthcare professionals, each contributing valuable insights to her journey. In the midst of her professional development, she was also blessed with three children, whose arrival brought new challenges, meaningful experiences, and a fresh perspective on life. Tahiba took an extended maternity break to focus on raising her family. When the time came to return to work, the transition proved unexpectedly overwhelming. This led to an awe-struck moment of inspiration, and as such, Optometry 101 came to fruition.
“Most ocular pathology books are designed with the Ophthalmologist in mind. Sourcing relevant information can be time-consuming, which is especially difficult in a busy practice with a tight schedule. A book tailored to Optometrists, with practical guidelines for use in the testing room, can truly make a difference. With this purpose in mind, Optometry 101 is designed to support Optometrists in performing their role to the best of their ability.”
